VIRTUAL IRRIGATION ACADEMY (VIA) - Research Project
Tanzania VIA research team had a two weeks trip in three different regions (Dodoma, Iringa and Morogoro) which are having irrigation schemes participating in the research activities.
The main objectives of this visit was: to introduce the project to newly selected irrigation schemes, follow up of research progress of existing schemes and doing Sense maker trials to capture social learning of farmers
Expanding Rice Production Project (ERPP) aims to increase the productivity and production of rice in targeted areas of Morogoro and Zanzibar, leading to improved rural incomes and food security. Activities will be supported through four components: (i) Sustainable seed systems; (ii) Improving crop productivity through better irrigation and crop management; (iii) Innovative marketing strategies; and (iv) Project management and coordination.
TANCAID II Project
The Ministry of Water and Irrigation through National Irrigation Commission in collaboration with JICA is implementing the Technical Cooperation Project Phase II – “Capacity Development for the Promotion of Irrigation Scheme Development under the DADPs”. The project aims at contributing to smooth implementation of irrigation project. The project duration is four years from 26 August, 2015 to 25 August, 2019. The project main beneficiaries include the irrigation staff from National Irrigation Commission, LGA’s and Irrigator organizations. Neverthless the project aims at contributing to smooth implementation of irrigation project through utilization of the Comprehensive Guideline (CGL) of Irrigation Scheme Development. At the end of project the CGL will be practiced in 60 irrigation schemes and a total of 40 irrigation staff at NIRC will be able to utilize the Guideline.
